doors
knock! knock!, aerosol paint, 2009/13

YO! Legally graffed* large-scale urban street art graces these once neglected doors with its raw and provocative energy. Environment played a key role in this unexpected choice of self-expression. Reminiscent of an inner-city’s urban decay– a dank, forgotten cellar, offering many of the same qualities, inspired the graffiti style murals. The eye-popping, territorial markers illuminate designated storage and work areas with vibrant colors and cleverly articulated ‘you are here’ turf catchphrases.

Rescued from ruin and preserved for future use, the solid, built-to-last, late-19th-century doors hang safely off the damp floor and away from moist walls. And just like typical graffiti, if future owners choose to restore, they can easily be painted over or striped-naked to their natural beauty. Tag UR. IT.
